Mercedes Running Pilot Test of Croove Car-Sharing Service
Interesting New Car-Sharing Feature from Mercedes-Benz
Alternate means of transportation have been rapidly growing in the last couple years. Uber and Lyft, the ridesharing services have exploded in popularity and have almost wiped out traditional taxi services in many locations. Mercedes’ Croove service might be the revolution that kills traditional car rental services as it is intended to connect renters directly with vehicle owners to rent directly. Croove allows users to enter in parameters about what make, model and luxury features they require in their rental car and will return a list of available options for the renter’s timeframe needed. The clever app can help people get a taste of what it’s like to be behind the wheel of a Mercedes, but surprisingly the service is not a Mercedes exclusive, instead Daimler has set out to have any car available on the service so long as it is in good condition and is no more than 15 years of age. That last limitation can be a bit of a bummer for anyone who would want to rent a classic for their trip to Italy - but it makes sense as far as difficulty of insurance goes. So despite the decision to have their service allow for any manufacturer’s cars to go up into the rental program, it seems Mercedes has found out a clever means of making a profit here that will benefit them more than most over auto companies. Croove will not only get new drivers behind the wheels of Mercedes, enjoying that posh interior or smoothest ride possible suspension offering the perfect carriage for their business trip or vacation. That is definitely a beneficial marketing move - but even more than that, the new Croove service could offer prospective Mercedes buyers a means to actually afford their payments on that new luxury coup they’ve been eyeing as they can rent out their new Mercedes every once and awhile and take the bite off their payments giving access to luxury cars to income brackets who’d never think of them before. It’s become a well-trod refrain, but carmakers are looking at what comes after ownership, and car-sharing between individual owners and renters is one of those models. Mercedes-Benz has begun its own car-share service that adopts that approach – Croove, a platform that has now launched as a pilot in Munich, Germany. Croove is pure peer-to-peer car rental model, where renters use an app to make choices about what model, trim level and other options they’re looking for in a car. The app will poll its database of registered vehicle owners in the area and find out what’s available for the time and duration need by the renter, and connect the dots. Continue Reading

What Happens In The Void of Champion Nico Rosberg’s Retirement?
Can Mercedes Compete After Rosberg?
Mercedes Racing management had only a couple day’s notice that their new championship driver Rosberg intended to retire now that he’s rode to the championship in Mercedes’ racing machine, which has left the German auto team scrambling for a new driver for the 2017 season. It seems that Valtteri Bottas is the first choice of Mercedes, but they intend not to make an official announcement until January third so we’ll be on the edge of our seats until then. Rosberg was a fantastic driver who took advantage of what Mercedes could put under the hood, but Mercedes is certain to find more competent drivers to fill out their team in the wake of Rosberg. In recent days it's become clear that Valtteri Bottas is Mercedes' first choice to replace Nico Rosberg - and that Williams is open to negotiating the Finn's release. Adam Cooper explores the implications of a potential deal. Two weeks have passed since Nico Rosberg’s retirement decision sent shockwaves through F1, and left the Mercedes management scrambling to find a new teammate for Lewis Hamilton. The team said on Thursday that there would be no announcement before January 3, so that has at least left observers of this extraordinary situation a chance to catch their collective breath. Why Do People Put “Baby on Board” Signs on Luxury Vehicles?
Although they have received quite a bit of mockery and spoofing over the years since they were first created, those yellow “Baby on Board” signs are designed to actually serve a couple of purposes. However, there are also some urban legends that have been born from the signs, too. For the most part, people put these signs up in their car to let other drivers know that there is a small child in the car (obviously). Theoretically, this is supposed to help trigger something in other drivers in the hopes that a natural instinct to protect babies kicks in and causes people who see the sign to drive more carefully. And this does work… for some people. They will see the “Baby on Board” sign and immediately question how safely they have been driving and will become more aware of their surroundings as they introspectively take a deeper look at the way they have been handling their vehicles. On the other hand, some people view the “Baby on Board” signs as a warning to other drivers. In this line of thinking, the sign’s intent is to inform others that there is potentially something overtly distracting (a baby) in the car with the driver. Seeing as most people have at least some kind of experience with babies, when they see that sign they might automatically think about what the driver might be dealing with. Little kids will scream, yell, cry, throw things, make messes and do pretty much anything in their power to get the attention of their parents. That doesn’t make for a very ideal driving situation… Not in the least. Because of this, some drivers might opt to put up the “Baby on Board” sign just to let other drivers know that, “Hey, I’ve got a little hellion in here flipping out, I might not be the safest driver on the road right now.” Another group of people altogether have a different take on the matter. These people just want to take pride in the fact that they have recently produced an offspring. That’s it - they just want others to realize they have the ability to reproduce. There was also once the belief that having these signs posted in a car helped EMTs better deal with situations and collisions that included small kids, but that has long since been debunked. If you’re thinking of getting one of these signs to stick to your Benz window for safety, you might actually want to consider replacing the transmission for your Mercedes so you can accelerate and decelerate more easily.

Mercedes-Benz to Start Building in China
China’s been a hot topic this year for various reasons, but for Mercedes it has been the 28% increase of sales in that market just this year, with more growth expected to follow. To maximize sales in the country though, Daimler has made the move to manufacture the components for electric cars as well as whole electric cars for the Chinese market locally. As part of a drive to manufacture more products local. Daimler may make batteries and Mercedes-Benz electric cars in China as part of a drive to manufacture more products locally and to try to boost sales, according to board member Hubertus Troska. Sales of the German company’s luxury cars in China have grown 28% so far this year after Mercedes spruced up its designs to give its cars a more sporty and upmarket feel, gaining traction with drivers in the world’s largest car market. “I am confident that Mercedes in China will show a decent performance next year,” Troska, Daimler’s board member responsible for Greater China, told reporters. Class Action Lawsuit Against Mercedes Fails
Mercedes-Benz Dodges a Big Bullet
The judge presiding the class action lawsuit in New Jersey this tuesday has dismissed the case that Mercedes had misled their customers about their Bluetec Clean Diesel after more recent studies have found the levels of greenhouse gases coming off the exhaust. The case was dismissed due to the plaintiffs not being able to provide evidence of such advertisements in America that would mislead them on the level of emissions from the vehicle. A U.S. judge in New Jersey on Tuesday threw out a proposed class action lawsuit alleging that automaker Mercedes (DAIGn.DE) misled consumers about emissions standards in "BlueTec Clean Diesel" vehicles. U.S. District Judge Jose Linares said the plaintiffs did not have standing to bring the case. Plaintiffs claimed Mercedes falsely advertised the BlueTec vehicles as having lower emissions. They said that they later found that the emissions were higher than U.S. standards permitted. The judge said the plaintiffs failed to show they actually viewed any of Mercedes' advertisements touting the cleaner technology. He gave them leave to revise their complaint. Continue Reading

Best Rap Songs that Talk About Mercedes-Benz
Mercedes-Benz Mentions in Hip Hop
There’s something in the air when it comes to the hip hop community and Mercedes-Benz. I imagine it has a lot to do with the fact that the manufacturer makes some of the best vehicles on the road (I might be a little biased, but hey) and that there is a thread of exclusivity when it comes to the German automaker. Either way, there are two things rappers really seem to love: Mercedes-Benz and rims (and we’re here to talk about the former). We were honestly looking to create a full list of all the times that Mercs got mentioned in rap songs, but apparently there are literally thousands of them. Mercedes-Benz mentions are so prevalent in hip hop and rap, in fact, that they squash the number two spot (Bentley) by more than double. As much as we’d like to hunt down every mention for our readers, that would be a months-long (years, maybe) ordeal that would completely turn this blog on its head and thoroughly change the subject matter. That all being said, we decided to whittle it down to just our favorites. We’re probably aging ourself a little bit with the picks below, but that doesn’t change the fact that they’re seriously great songs. So, without further ado and in no particular order - here are our favorite (which are obviously the best) rap songs that talk about Mercedes-Benz with the titles being links to each song’s video/song: Eminem - Forgot About Dre Slim Shady, hotter then a set of twin babiesIn a Mercedes Benz with the windows upWhen the temp goes up to the mid-80sCalling men ladies, sorry, Doc, but I been crazy Notorious B.I.G.- Big Poppa Believe me sweety I got enough to feed the needyNo need to be greedy I got mad friends with Benz'sC-notes by the layers, true f**kin playersJump in the Rover and come over 2pac - Picture Me Rollin’ Picture me rolling in my 500 BenzI got no love for these n***as, there's no need to be friends 50 Cent - In da Club When I pull out up front, you see the Benz on dubsWhen I roll twenty deep, it's twenty knives in the club Jay-Z & Kanye West - Otis (Feat. Otis Redding) Now I'm bout to make them tuck they whole summer inThey say I'm crazy, well, I'm 'bout to go dumb againThey ain't see me 'cause I pulled up in my other BenzLast week I was in my other other Benz A Tribe Called Quest - Jazz (We’ve Got) Do it for the strong, we do it for the meekBoom it in your boom it in your boom it in your JeepOr your Honda or your Beemer or your Legend or your BenzThe rave of the town to your foes and your friends Puff Daddy & Mase - Can’t Nobody Hold Me Down We made hits that'll rearrange your whole setAnd got a Benz, that I ain't even drove yet Outkast - Benz or Beamer I got these thoughts, similar to the ones that call in the wildUp in the Benz is where I be doin about a hundred miles Not into rap? Don’t think we forgot about you. Probably the most well-known reference to Mercedes-Benz in music comes from none other than the Eagles with their classic Hotel California: Her mind is Tiffany-twisted, she got the Mercedes bendsShe got a lot of pretty, pretty boys, that she calls friendsHow they dance in the courtyard, sweet summer sweatSome dance to remember, some dance to forgetHere’s hoping you like our faves! If you don’t, you might want to reconsider your taste in music ;)

Mercedes Powers Through November Sales
Mercedes-Benz Sales Soared Last Month
For yet another month in a row Mercedes has led in the sale of luxury autos in the US, seeing the competitor BMW take a swift fall this november. While overall Mercedes sales grew by 1.1 percent this month, their competitor BMW AG saw an 18% drop in sales leaving BMW to eat Mercedes’ dust. Not looking to help their vehicle sales but want to keep your classic running smooth, you may want to consider replacing your Mercedes-Benz transmission. Mercedes-Benz sold the most luxury autos in the U.S. again in November, virtually guaranteeing that the Daimler AG brand will take the full-year title from BMW. Sales of the Mercedes GLC sport utility vehicle more than tripled while C-Class car deliveries held steady, giving the brand a 1.1 percent increase for the month to 30,363 autos, according to a statement Thursday. Toyota Motor Corp. said Lexus slipped 1 percent to 29,050 vehicles, and BMW AG reported an 18 percent drop to 26,189 for its namesake marque. Mercedes is offering more SUVs and in a broader price range, said Rebecca Lindland, senior analyst at Kelley Blue Book. “They have a sense of how to make them attainable without losing that sense of luxury,” which is giving Mercedes a competitive advantage, she said. 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing a Rare Beauty
An Investment Like No Other
Originally purchased for $6,000 back in 1965 by Cooper Weeks, a now-retired airline captain for TWA, this ‘55 300 SL Gullwing is now worth $1.5 million and certainly looks like it’s worth at least that much. If you’re thinking about getting a classic back to pristine shape for yourself, check out our selection of Mercedes-Benz body parts as an excellent starting point. When I was growing up in Des Moines, Iowa, nobody had ever heard of a Gullwing. In 1965, I saw an ad in a Road & Track magazine for one for sale on consignment. It was in Switzerland. I didn’t know what it was, but it struck me. When I bought it for $6,000 (shipping was included), my father told me, “You can’t buy that car!” It was a used car, and I could buy a new Cadillac for that price. We had no idea the Gullwing would become an icon. A lot of people think of it today as the most beautiful car ever built. In its day, the Gullwing was the fastest production car in existence—about 160 mph. It had cutting-edge technology like fuel injection, and the styling was radical, most notably the doors, which open like the wings of a bird. Movie stars owned these cars, such as Clark Gable and Paul Newman. It was only made from 1954 to 1957, and that’s one of the reasons it is such a notable collector’s car today. All-Electric Mercedes-Benz SUV Coming in 2020
EQ Class SUV is a Stunner
As much as we love classic Mercedes-Benz parts and the cars they fit into, we can’t help but find ourselves more than a little excited for some of the new stuff that Mercedes has in the works. For instance, the slick new all-electric EQ series SUV that’s going to be coming out in 2020 looks undeniably cool both inside and out and we can’t wait to give it a test run. Believe it or not, the world’s first all-electric cars were invented nearly 200 years ago, offering quiet, easy operation for quick around-town trips (check out my in-depth examination of EVs here). Mercedes-Benz, being the old automotive standby that it is, first got into the EV game in 1906, but like every other major automaker, eventually ditched the batteries in favor of a gas tank. Now, with all-electric transportation once again on the rise, Mercedes has decided to double down on EV investment, and it’s looking like its new major effort will be an SUV. Packing more than 300 miles of range, oodles of luxury, the very latest autonomous tech, and a serious amount of muscle, Merc’s new upcoming model looks to dominate a segment that’s only now starting to emerge.Continue Reading

Mercedes-Benz Continues to Up its Truck Game
Luxe and Utility in a Pickup
Despite your thoughts on whether or not Mercedes-Benz should be building pickup trucks, they’re going to do so regardless. We’re okay with it, though, as long as they continue to put out awesome-looking pickups like their X Class concept (shown above). If you end up getting one (and if they ever get brought to the states), a more classic set of Mercedes-Benz rims might be in order if you don’t like the stock ones the truck will come with. A quick look at sales year to date shows the overwhelming share of trucks outstripping cars, a trend that’s accelerating as automakers pour on truck models, including luxury-brand mash-ups that would’ve been unthinkable traditionally, like a Mercedes-Benz pickup, or a Jaguar SUV.With U.S. automakers due to report November auto sales on Thursday, Dec. 1, there’s no contest between cars and trucks, and little doubt that on the strength of its truck sales Mercedes-Benz will be the luxury-brand champ again this year over Lexus and the BMW brand, by an even wider margin than last year.Year to date through October, for the whole U.S. industry trucks made up 60 percent of sales, up from 56 percent at the same time last year, according to the Automotive News Data Center.
