The Slick New Mercedes-AMG GT R
While we’ve seen images floating around on the internet of this beauty of a car, the viciously green GT R has made its first public appearance stateside and a new chorus of attention is rising to meet it. The car is bound to catch eyes and turn heads with the vibrant green, and with the powerful engine it’s sure to be felt as it cruises around being hardly street legal and designed with racetracks in mind. With a car like this you are bound to burn through your tires and brakes as you test the limits.
You’ve seen this car before. The 2018 Mercedes-AMG GT R made its first official public appearance on June 24 at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. You probably recognize the GT R by its impossible-to-miss color, which is called AMG Green Hell Magno (no, not mango). But this awesome AMG just made its first visit to North America in California as part of Monterey Car Week. What better reason could there be to dredge it back up to the surface with a live image gallery?
At the heart of the GT R is a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 that puts out 577 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. There are a host of changes versus more mundane AMG GTs to make the R worthy of its badge, all culminating in a 0-60 run of 3.5 seconds and a top speed of 198 miles per hour. Continue Reading
