Mercedes-Benz Trucks to get Pedestrian Avoidance
Daimler, which you should recognize as the parent company to Mercedes-Benz, will be adding a new system to Benz trucks called Active Brake Assist 4 (ABA 4). The system will warn drivers of potential collisions with pedestrians and bicyclists, and will begin partial braking. ABA 4 detects these obstacles up to 250 meters away as far as other vehicles are concerned. When it comes to pedestrians, they can be detected up to 80 meters away. When it comes to people on bicycles or smaller vehicles like mopeds or motorcycles, they can be detected between 250 and 80 meters away and averages out to about 160 meters.
Along with Active Brake Assist 4, Mercedes-Benz trucks will be adding another system called Sideguard Assist. Sideguard Assist, like ABA 4, uses radar sensors on the sides of the truck to let the driver know if objects – other vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists, etc. – are present. The warning comes in the form of an LED flashing at the edge of the windshield, which will draw attention to the driver in a manner that will help see and locate whatever might be on the side. This is especially beneficial when changing lanes and is being implemented for that reason.

Mercedes-AMG C43 Sounds Better than Most Cars Look
With a buttery-smooth purr, the Mercedes-AMG C43 coupe has an undeniably satisfying purr as it makes its way through the video below. However, the snapping sound coming from the 3.0-liter biturbo V6 engine might be a bit of a turnoff for some of you, but if you’re savvy enough to know that’s the turbo working its magic, then that snapping sound might be one of the most beautiful noises you’ve ever heard from a car that is arguably a production vehicle.
As far as what that engine can put out, you are looking at an astonishing 362 hp as well as 384 lb-ft for torque to get the car moving. And it’ll move quick with a zero to 60 that’d be tough for nearly any car on the road to match at 4.6 seconds. The Mercedes-AMG C43 coupe also rocks a 9-speed 9G-TRONIC automatic transmission to really give the car excellent performance and kick at any speed.
As an even crazier testament to how powerful this car is, it is electronically limited to how fast it can go. Don’t worry, though, there’s a pretty good chance that if you pick one of these sporty C43s up you might not ever reach that limit – it is set at a blistering 155 miles per hour.
I will warn you, though, that while you watch the video below, that Mercedes engine might just lull you into a slumber with dreams of tearing through wooded areas and enjoying a car to its fullest. So, if you happen to be watching this at work, take another sip of coffee. But, if you’re like me, hearing this amazing C43’s engine will be more likely to just get you unreasonably excited. Wait, unreasonable isn’t the right word in this context – I meant to say rightfully thrilled to hear a car through desktop speakers (or whatever you’re listening with). Enjoy:

Brad Pitt Takes a Lap at Le Mans 24-Hour Event
As if there wasn’t already enough to be envious about with him, 52 year old actor Brad Pitt was in France over the weekend for the supercar event that many see as the car class’s premier event. Not only was he chosen to wave off the start of the race itself, but he actually got to drive one of these supercars for a full lap around the prestigious course before the race began.
And when looking to work on your own car, check out the Mercedes-Bens engines we have available.
He cemented his Hollywood status with action flicks such as Fight Club and Ocean’s Eleven.
However, Brad Pitt fuelled his adrenaline in another form as he took a full lap at the Le Mans 24 Hours circuit in Le Mans, France on Saturday.
The 52-year-old actor was given the honorary starter role, which saw him wave 60 cars off the grid – but that wasn’t before he toured the circuit and revved up the engine for a speedy ride himself. Read More

Engine Technology Hits 100MPG, Invented Two Centuries Ago
Though it was invented in the 1800s and worked well mechanically, the Stirling engine didn’t really go anywhere. Steam and combustion engines obviously took the spotlight. Even after NASA studied the engine a bit in the 80s and achieved over 50 miles per gallon with it, the design still didn’t catch on. Seeing its potential, a guy named Josh MacDowell used modern knowhow with the Stirling engine and has apparently gotten it up to 100mpg. It’ll be tested soon and we’ll see what happens from there. In the meantime, if you need a new engine for your Mercedes you can click here.
Josh “Mac” MacDowell of San Antonio Texas had a brilliant idea. He took a Stirling engine, a type of engine developed 200 years ago, and added some 21st-century technology to it. The result is a hybrid electric car so efficient that you never have to stop to recharge, reports Houston’s KHOU11.
The centerpiece of MacDowell’s innovation is the Stirling engine, which was created in 1816. The closed-cycle air engine uses the expansion of hot air and the compression of cold air to generate the power needed to drive an engine. Unlike steam engines which utilize a similar principal, the Stirling engine has an internal regenerative heat exchanger that keeps the hot and cold air at the correct temperature. This recycling feature boosts the engine’s efficiency to a whopping 50 percent. For comparison, a standard internal combustion engine operates only at 14 percent efficiency. Continue Reading

Car Chase Victim’s Insurance Won’t Cover Repairs
Even though she did nothing wrong whatsoever, a woman in St. Louis by the name of Michelle Payne is kind of getting raked over the coals by her insurance company. During a police chase, the suspect being pursued ended up smashing into her car and causing about $4,000 in damages. Since she doesn’t have comprehensive coverage, though, she’s probably going to have to pay about, well, $4,000 for repairs.
Should you ever be faced with a similar situation with your Benz, you might want to click here to get the body parts yourself and save thousands on the repairs by doing them yourself or having a friend or family member help.
A woman who owns a car that was hit by a suspect in a high speed chase near the Central West End says her insurance company will not cover the thousands of dollars in damage her car suffered.
Michelle Payne said her car suffered $4,000 in damages. The person allegedly responsible is Shaneece Marshall. Marshall led police on high speed chase that ended near the Fox Theater. Police believe she had a child inside the car.
As the pursuit went around barriers at the intersection of Olive and Whittier, the stolen car allegedly driven by Marshall hit Payne’s Honda and other cars. Continue Reading

Mercedes-Benz G550 Inching Toward its US Release
With a base cost of what’s looking to be about $120,000, the 2017 Mercedes-Benz G550 4×4 behemoth is going to be released sometime soon in the United States. Remember, though, that’s just the base cost, if you’re going to want all the bells and whistles when it comes to accessories, you’re probably going to have to drop more than $150,000. Heck, at that bargain you might as well buy two, right?
When the G500 4×4² was officially unveiled a year ago, off-roading fans went nuts. It’s the supped-up version of the already popular G-Class SUV, but it comes with so much more. Until now, you couldn’t get your hands on one in the U.S. But that’s all about to change.
In a short period of time, the 2017 Mercedes-Benz G550 4×4² will arrive at dealerships nationwide. It’s a softer version of the G63 AMG 6×6, and naturally comes with two fewer wheels, but retains the terrain-chewing hardware that’s the thing of off-roading dreams.
For instance, enhanced and strengthened bodywork meets sturdy portal axels, with advanced ground clearance measured at a healthy 17-inches. This gives the G550 the innate ability to cross nearly 40-inches of water (actually 39.4), and enables the truck to traverse rougher terrain with portal axels. Continue Reading

Hottest New GT R Won’t be a Nissan
While it is easy to see why they would have chosen the “R” to go after the Mercedes-AMG GT supercar’s name since it is so linkable to the term “Racing”, but that doesn’t make the decision from Benz a good one. Considering that Nissan’s supercar, the GT-R, is so well known and coveted among car buffs, it’s a headscratcher that Mercedes-Benz would make their new supercar be called the GT R, right?
Still, the vehicle is going to be a straight-up beast if current assumptions hold up. It is likely to have between 550 and 600 HP from a V8 twin-turbo 4.0 liter engine. Pairing that with what is likely to be some insane torque behind the wheels, the GT R is looking to have a 0 to 60 near 3.5 seconds (we’ll see, so don’t hold me to that too harshly). Additionally, rumors tell that parts of this car are going to be made of carbon fiber to minimize the weight and make it much more responsive than its predecessors, particularly the GT S.
Looking to get one of these beauties and want to customize it a bit for yourself? Check out the Mercedes-Benz rims we have available. And, if you do, contact us – we’d love to see and share some pictures!

Takata Airbags Cause Nearly 200,000 Mercedes-Benz Recalls
Over a pretty short period of time, we have seen the development of an incredibly serious recall having to do with a number of Mercedes-Benz vehicles. The recall is concerning airbags produced by the company Takata, specifically the inflators on the front passenger side of the vehicles.
The problem is that, over time, the inflators can degrade due to a few issues. The recall, issued by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, said in a summary, “In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the front airbags, these inflators may rupture due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to absolute humidity and temperature cycling.” They added, “An inflator rupture may result in metal fragments striking the vehicle occupants, resulting in serious injury or death.”
Even with this all being the case, Daimler AG (Mercedes-Benz’ parent company) has stated that they haven’t had any issues stemming from the Takata airbags from drivers, so it’s particularly commendable that they are being so open about the recall.
The vehicles involved in the recall from Mercedes include:
If you own any of these vehicles, you should expect to receive mailers soon informing you of the recall. The parts are not yet available to fix all the nearly 200,000 cars that have been affected, but you should be receiving a second mailer as soon as the repair can be made.
For those of you who are looking to make repairs on your own vehicle – even if not necessarily the Takata airbag -, we offer a full range of Mercedes-Benz parts. You can find them by clicking here.

Today is the Birthday of Drive-in Theaters
Earlier this week was the anniversary of when the American public was first introduced to drive-in theaters. On June 6, 1933, people were, for the first time, treated to watching a flick from the relative comfort of their cars.
The ideas that led to the creation of drive-in theaters were first thought up by a man named Richard Hollingshead. Other than being a general fan of movies, Hollingshead really didn’t have any kind of connection to the movie industry or theaters. He was, in fact, a sales manager for the company Whiz Auto Products, which was owned by his father. If the stories are correct, the initial ideas that led to the drive-in theater were actually Hollingshead’s attempts at making his mother more comfortable while watching a movie.
With that being his jumping off point, he came up with the idea to make the theater open air and moviegoers would watch the movie while still in their vehicles. From there, he set up and tested various ways to have movies displayed outdoors and make sure everyone could hear the audio as well. Hollingshead patented the concept and opened his business Park-In Theaters, Inc. After a long, successful run, his patent was stripped in 1949, which is when we saw drive-in theaters start springing up nationwide.
Though the popularity of drive-in theaters has waned fairly thin over the years, maybe it’s time to make this one-time American icon a regular part of our routines again. Certainly the interior of your Mercedes-Benz is more comfortable than the seats at your local multiplex, right? Take advantage of that fact and help make drive-in theaters thrive once again – I promise you’ll end up having more fun than going to a regular theater, especially if you have kids with you.
