Clifton, NJ, Cop Under Investigation After Brake Checking a Driver
An officer in Clifton, NJ, is in hot water after dashcam footage caught him brake checking the driver behind him. In the video, shared below, you can see the cop braking quick in the middle of the street with nothing in front of him. As you can imagine, this dangerous practice hasn’t gone over lightly with the city’s residents, which has resulted in an investigation by the police department’s Internal Affairs.
Don’t let your brakes fail in a time like this, check out our Mercedes brakes.
A dashcam recording of a city police officer braking suddenly in the middle of the roadway, and then issuing multiple tickets to the driver behind him has caused an uproar among some residents and triggered an internal affairs probe of the officer involved.
The footage, taken by the driver’s dashcam, was posted last week to YouTube by a Clifton resident who identified himself only as Omar B. It shows the officer slamming on his brakes in front of the motorist as he drives north up Van Houten Avenue.
There is nothing in front of the officer when he brakes suddenly, and the officer admits in the recording that he braked only because he felt the motorist behind him was following too closely. As a result, the driver is forced to brake quickly in the middle of the road. Continue Reading

Mercedes-Benz and Tesla Motors Ending Electric Car Parts Deals
B Class image via Mercedes-Benz
Although Tesla is the king -arguably- when it comes to all things electric vehicles, Mercedes-Benz is finally going to stop getting their electric drivetrains and battery packs from the electric-centric auto builder. From here on out, Mercedes will be building their own parts in a new factory that makes their electric car production far more self-sufficient.

After seven years, Mercedes-Benz and Tesla Motors are parting ways. The German automaker will go at it alone in developing the next generation B-Class Electric Drive, its fully electric $42,000 compact five-door hatchback.
“We have had an excellent project with Tesla and have worked very well with them,” Harald Kroeger, head of electric-drive development at Mercedes-Benz parent Daimler AG, told the German magazine Wirtshafts Woche in an article published over the weekend.
But the company has invested 500 million euros ($550.5 million) in a battery and drivetrain plant and can now supply itself with the necessary components, Kroeger added. Read More

Replica Mercedes Rims on Amazon Leads to Lawsuit
image via US District Court filing, Seattle
Amazon has been supporting the sale of replica Mercedes-Benz rims and Daimler isn’t having any of that. The auto manufacturer is suing Amazon for copyright infringement, which may actually end up leading to a bigger issue that determines if Amazon should be held responsible for infringements made by third-party sellers.
For legit rims, click here.
Daimler AG is suing Amazon for patent and trademark infringement, alleging that the e-commerce giant illegally sold and distributed replica Mercedes-Benz wheels from a third-party manufacturer that “blatantly copy” the automotive giant’s protected designs.
The lawsuit, filed this week in U.S. District Court in Seattle, could serve as a new test of Amazon’s liability for counterfeit goods sold on its site — an issue with wide-ranging financial and legal implications for the company.
Amazon last year won a similar case against pillowcase maker Milo & Gabby, although the ruling is currently under appeal, and the trial court judge said legislators should revisit the law on which the decision was based. Continue Reading

Mercedes SLK Battery Backup Recall Notice
If you own a Mercedes-Benz SLK, you should act soon and get the battery backup fixed as soon as possible. You can get it done at any Mercedes Benz dealership with an attached mechanic and the fix will be free for you.
Those of you looking to repair or upgrade your electrical system yourself, you can check out the available Mercedes electronics by heading over to this page.
Mercedes-Benz has recalled its SLK sports model this week, due to a potential problem with the battery system.
The carmaker has identified a problem with power supply to the ignition switch, which could be interrupted.
Should the vehicle’s main battery fail, the backup battery will not supply energy to the ignition switch. This could render both the electric selector for the automatic transmission and the electronic park brake inoperable. Read More

Man Owes $12,000 in Tolls, Loses His Benz
A man by the name of Oscar Sanchez apparently figured he’d never get hunted down for skipping out on paying the toll road fees through New Jersey and New York, but it finally all caught up to him. He now owes $12,000 in tolls and his Mercedes Benz was impounded. He’s been charged with a number of crimes, too, including driving on a suspended license, service theft and missing a front license plate.
The impounded car might be good news for you, though, as it might go up for auction cheap somewhat soon. If so, you might want to fix it up and maybe get some new rims for it. If so, click here to check out our rims selection.
Authorities say a New Jersey man who owes $12,000 in unpaid EZ Pass tolls has had his black Mercedes Benz impounded and is facing charges.
Port Authority of New York and New Jersey spokesman Joe Pentangelo said Wednesday that Oscar Sanchez, of Jersey City, was pulled over by agency police on Tuesday because the car didn’t have a front license plate.
Pentangelo says the officer discovered Sanchez had an expired driver’s license and more than 200 counts of missed EZ Pass toll payments amounting to about $12,000. Read More

Earnhardt Jr. Crashes Hard at Talladega
Image via Twitter
After a (second) crash during the famous NASCAR Talladega race during his 50th lap, Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s race came to an abrupt end. He was looking to achieve his seventh win, but instead will just need to put some work into his car, especially when it comes to fixing the car’s body.
Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s quest for a seventh win at Talladega ended on Lap 50 of Sunday’s Geico 500 after a three-car crash.
Much like the accident that cost him in the Daytona 500, Earnhardt’s car got loose and turned sideways into teammate Kasey Kahne’s car. Junior’s car jad heavy front-left end damage after hitting Matt DiBenedetto’s car. Damage also was caused to another Earnhardt teammates, Chase Elliott.
“I think trying to put the nose between the No. 19 (Carl Edwards) and the No. 14 (Tony Stewart) there is a lot of air coming off both those cars and just pinned the nose,” Earnhardt told Fox Sports after the crash. “We were real tight, the splitter was on the ground real bad the whole first run and we took some rounds out of the back and that really made the car too loose off of the corner. Same thing we did at Daytona.” Continue Reading

Image via Snapper Media
Although we can do a lot to make our Mercedes-Benz body parts look like new or made sportier, chances are pretty low that you’d be able to do what a Saudi billionaire prince has done. He has a fleet of golden supercars, including the six-tire Mercedes-Benz monstrosity seen in the picture here. To see more, check out the link below.
This tourist took luxury travel to a whole new level after bringing his fleet of flashy cars valued at $1.8 million to the streets of London.
The cars’ owner, a prince reportedly from Saudi Arabia, was snapped driving his uber plush fleet among the city’s busy streets this week.
The vehicles, which are wrapped in gold vinyl, have an estimated total value of $2.35 million, CNN reported. […]
The owner of the luxury fleet has been named as playboy prince Saudi billionaire Turki Bin Abdullah.

Mercedes-Benz Worried About Diesel Emissions – Begins Investigation
Due to the whole fiasco surrounding Volkswagen and their diesel engine emissions lies, the Mercedes-Benz parent company Daimler has begun an investigation. They are looking to find whether or not their certification processes are correct, which should help to keep the car manufacturer out of trouble regarding Mercedes-Benz engines, even if this news made the company’s stock value drop.
The same day that Volkswagen AG reported that the diesel emissions scandal that has cost it $18.2 billion so far, Mercedes Benz parent company Daimler said today that it is launching an internal investigation into the emissions certification process for its diesel vehicles. That news, plus a shortfall on first quarter earnings expectations, sent shares 5.5% lower.
Daimler said the diesel probe stems from communications it has had with the U.S. Dept. of Justice. This action also follows the filing of a lawsuit by a U.S.-based Mercedes vehicle owner charging the German automaker with allegedly using a device to affect its emissions tests.
The suit, filed by Seattle, Washington-based law firm Hagens Berman Sobol Shaprio, LLP, says the action is based, in part, on an article published in German magazine Der Spiegel, which claims that Mercedes admitted to designing the diesel-powered vehicles to shut off emissions controls in cooler ambient temperatures to protect the engine. Nine-Speed Automatic Transmission from Daimler Chrysler on the Way
image via Daimler
The company that owns Mercedes-Benz – Daimler Chrysler – has begun producing a nine-speed automatic transmission at their factory in Sebes, Romania. That being said, it shouldn’t be long before top-of-the-line models from Mercedes come equipped with the units installed. This addition should make for interesting modifications and new dynamics when replacing a transmission.
Daimler has begun production of its 9G-TRONIC nine-speed automatic transmission at its Sebes factory in Romania. The production is being handled by its Romanian subsidiary Star Assembly.
The German luxury car-maker has invested about €300m to expand the production capacity at the facility and creating 1000 new jobs in the process. The facility will spread across area roughly ten times that of a football pitch.
The production at Seres facility was officially inaugurated by Romanian Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Economy, Costin Borc and Mercedes-Benz Cars member of the Divisional Board Markus Schäfer and other members. Continue Reading

Hideous Rims that Should’ve Never Existed
Rims can make or break the look of a car. In the article linked below from Jalopnik, they searched far and wide to showcase some of the ugliest tires ever created, and you’d have to see them to believe they were ever actually created.
Wondering why the rims pictured to the left look so odd? It’s because Asanti felt like they should be lined with none other than ostrich leather. Seriously.
A good set of wheels is one of the cheapest ways to improve your ride’s looks, but just lack of taste can lead to disastrous results. Jalopnik readers have a few ideas about what we should avoid…
10.) Envy Monolyth
Using a set of Envy Monolyth wheels is fine as long as you’re preparing a surprise for a young dotcom billionaire. In any other case, just forget it. Continue Reading
