Want a Racetrack? One’s Up for Auction Soon

The Rockingham Speedway is going to be up for auction come May 5, and if you’ve got the money sitting around you could be the next owner. Maybe go in on the deal with your buddies then fix up your steering and suspension and have a blast on the track? Valued at $6.85 million, this racetrack will be a steal if you end up winning the auction (good luck!).

ROCKINGHAM — A year after the deadline for a court-ordered sale, the legendary Rockingham Speedway is going on the auction block.

According a notice of foreclosure sale filed in Richmond County Superior Court on April 7, the property will be sold “to the highest bidder for cash” at a public auction May 5.

The notice states the sale will include “the real property, together with all rights, privileges and appurtenances thereto…and the personal property described in the deed of trust.” Continue Reading

Grad Student Designs an Insanely Efficient Transmission

A grad student and PHD candidate at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology named Dan Dorsch has designed a clutchless transmission that continues to move the vehicle while shifting is taking place. It’s also designed to work flawlessly with hybrids, giving it an even greater focus on efficiency. It’ll likely be years before we see Dorsch’s design available for sale to the public, so if you’re in the market for a Mercedes Benz transmission, you might want to take a peek through our selection to at least keep your car running until Dorsch’s transmission is available.

Dan Dorsch, a second-year PhD candidate at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, recently won the Lemelson-MIT “Drive it!” award for his high-performance, clutchless hybrid transmission. Dorsch and his team worked to develop a transmission that blended both aspects of hybrid technology: crushing total performance, like we can see in the Porsche 918 and in Formula One, and the efficiency of a Toyota Prius. Yamaha Has a Scooter Concept that Has Wings

Although we are (obviously) all about Mercedes Benz parts, that doesn’t mean we don’t find news from other manufacturers interesting. Case in point, this scooter concept from Yamaha. I’m not sure if I absolutely love or loathe the wings they have designed into the scooter, but I’ve never seen anything like it and am kind of excited to see more companies take risks like this.

Unveiled at the first Vietnam Motorcycle Show in Ho Chi Minh City, the fourth concept model of Yamaha’s Gen series pursues an innovative approach to scooter dynamics and body structure that is based on the company’s Refined Dynamism design philosophy. Instead of hiding the frame behind exterior parts, the 04Gen concept wraps them in semi-transparent parts that pivot up to give the scooter wings.

Yamaha established its latest design philosophy in 2013 in an attempt to define a unique and clearly identifiable style. Under the Refined Dynamism umbrella, Yamaha has introduced three design concepts, starting in 2014 with the 01Gen tilting three-wheeler that had two wheels at the front. Continue Reading

Plus Sizing Your Tires Explained

While it might make your car look more aesthetically pleasing, you should take steps when getting bigger rims for your vehicle to ensure you’re doing it right. Otherwise, you risk damaging your tires and, in extreme cases, the car itself. And if you’re driving a Benz, that’s simply unacceptable.

Tires are one of the most vital elements of a vehicle, but they are often ignored. On car forums and in car fans’ discussions, tires rarely come into the discussion, and often in the process of swapping the rims. The most common swap involves upsizing. The term means fitting bigger wheels and adequate tires to a car.

From there, things have gone into several directions over the years, and some tuning trends include doing horrible things to tires.

They are abused by fitting them in a “stretched” fashion on inappropriately sized rims. While the aesthetic factor comes to mind, those stretched tires do look good in pictures and videos, but they bring disasters to ride, handling, and safety. Continue Reading

Chicago’s Albany Park Sees Rims Theft

If you live near Albany Park in Chicago, you may want to consider renting a garage to park your car in overnight, especially if it’s a Mercedes and you have some nice rims on it. Thieves in the area have been targeting cars’ rims and leaving people without tires, which must be completely terrible to wake up to. Here’s hoping none of you have to deal with this issue.

Residents in Chicago’s Albany Park neighborhood say they are waking up to find their cars on cinder blocks with their tires and rims stolen.

When you park on the street you’re assuming some risk for a break-in, but some of these crimes are happening in driveways right in front of victims’ homes.

Faisal Patel:”The tires been stolen, that’s it!”

ABC7’s Laura Thoren: “And you think they are professionals?”

Faisal Patel: “Yes, they are.”

Faisal Patel woke up Monday morning to find his 2014 Toyota Corolla useless, sitting on concrete blocks with four of its alloy wheels missing – stolen by thieves overnight. Continue Reading

Grab a Super-Expensive Car for Super Cheap

Including the likes of the 2003 Mercedes-Benz S55 AMG, 1992 BMW 850i, 1997 Aston Martin DB7 and more, the list collected at the linked-to page below shows off a number of cars that were originally sold for over $100,000 but are at incredibly low prices today. As far as that 2003 Benz is concerned, you could buy it and invest in only a handful of engine parts and it’d run like new.

If you’re like any other semi-narcissistic person out there, you probably enjoy owning something desirable and expensive, if only for the virtue of its exclusivity. And if you’re a cheap-ass like me, you’ll enjoy that feeling even more if you don’t go broke chasing it. Thankfully, here are five automotive examples of six figure masterpieces made affordable through the wonders of capitalism. Get your countin’ hand ready.

2003 Mercedes-Benz S55 AMG

This Mercedes-Benz S55 AMG was the buff S-class range’s fast one. It had a supercharged 5.4-liter V8 that pumped out nearly 500 horsepower with every amenity you, or any human in the next several stages of evolution, would ever realistically need. Continue Reading

Mercedes E63 Drivetrain Heading to the AMG GLC 63

Without a powerful flagship version of the AMG in the works, Mercedes Benz apparently lost out on a number of potential sales. To remedy this problem, the auto manufacturer is using the drivetrain from the E63 in the new AMG GLC 63, which is a bit of good news as it delivers more power than the vehicle was expected to have.

As such the automaker seems willing to make up for the lost time and deliver quicker the GLC 63 version – which is now allegedly going to feature an unexpected power enhancement. That’s because while the rumor mill was mulling for the powertrain from the C63 version which would have been used unchanged, reportedly now Tobias Moers – the supreme chief of Mercedes-AMG – has actually commented during a recent interview the crossover would deploy the same powertrain as the one presented in the yet to be released 2017 E63. This means the GLC63 will trump the current rating of 469 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque the C63 has – and of course the GLC63 S version will consequently be more powerful than the C63 S which packs 503 hp and 516 lb-ft. Automatic Braking to be Standard by 2020

While it is merely an option right now, cars with automatic brakes are likely going to be a standard addition to cars by 2020. What this means for those of you who want total control with your brakes, you are going to end up driving older cars for the rest of your life. Here’s hoping it makes an undeniably positive impact on our roads.

According to Tech Times, several automakers are aiming to make automatic emergency braking (AEB) standard equipment by 2022. The introduction of the automatic emergency braking safety system in the United Stated virtually guarantees it will also carry over to the Canadian market.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has announced on its official website a commitment from 20 automakers to make the AEB systems a standard feature by Sept. 1, 2022. The car maker companies entering this agreement represent more than 99 percent of the U.S. automotive industry. Continue Reading

2017 Mercedes Benz CLA an Impressive Ride

The 375-horsepower 2017 Mercedes Benz CLA is a beautiful machine and it boasts some impressive aesthetic changes from previous years’ models. The most drastic changes made to the 2017 CLA include an AMG aerodynamic package, advanced entertainment controls, LED headlights, smartphone integration and more.

Really, the only thing someone might want to change on the Mercedes Benz CLA is to swap out the rims for something more personal.

Mercedes-Benz has bestowed the 2017 models of CLA a minor mid-life makeover, packing in a 375-horsepower engine, high-performance headlights, smartphone integration and more.

Way back 2013, Mercedes-Benz initially rolled out its CLA compact sedan in the United States.

While the four-door CLA is the German automaker’s first compact car in the United States market, it was well-received by consumers. In fact, the automaker managed to sell nearly 30,000 of the sedans in 2015. Continue Reading
