Oil Prices in the Face of Norwegian Strike

Due to a strike from the workers of the largest oil producer in northern Europe in Norway, that region of the world should expect a rise in oil prices. Alongside the recent Brexit vote, the economy of Europe and the cost of fuel right now are shaky at best if not a complete mess. If planning to visit the EU any time soon for a luxury Mercedes-Benz drive through multiple countries, it could be far more expensive than originally planned.

If you are looking to get your Mercedes-Benz fuel system running properly, click here for the best parts at the best prices.

Oil prices rose on Tuesday as a looming strike in Norway threatened to cut output in western Europe’s biggest producer, although Britain’s vote to leave the European Union was still weighing on markets.

About 755 Norwegian workers on seven oil and gas fields could go on strike from Saturday, hitting output from the North Sea’s top producer, if a new wage deal is not agreed before a Friday deadline.

A final round of mandatory talks will be hosted by a state mediator on June 30 and July 1 in an effort to avoid disruption that could start the following day. Continue Reading

Recalled 2016 Mercedes-Benz AMG GT S has Powertrain Issues

Mercedes-Benz has announced they are conducting a recall for 136 2016 AMG GT S sports coupes. This model from Mercedes-Benz is being recalled over problems with the powertrain, and the fix will see the AMG GT S get fitted with a carbon-fiber driveshaft.

As reported by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in the recall summary for the AMG GT S, “The adhesive bond between the carbon-fiber driveshaft and the rear flange may fail, [and] there may be a loss of torque to the rear wheels.” The summary continued by describing further issues that could arise, “The vehicle operator may be unable to move the vehicle, or may experience deceleration if the vehicle is in motion, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.”

This recall is one of those events that prove yet again just how superior Mercedes-Benz is to other manufacturers. Where other car companies will not issue a recall until a substantial number of their vehicles had issues and experienced the breakdown of a specific part, the AMG GT S has only seen one incident happen to a customer last October. Even then, what the driver reported was that they heard some noises coming from underneath the car. From that, Mercedes-Benz put in the due diligence to determine the underlying cause of the noises and ended up discovering the driveshaft problem. Thankfully it is being taken care of before someone gets hurt because of a faulty part.

If you prefer to work on your car yourself and you want to replace the driveshaft on your vehicle instead of taking it in to a mechanic, visit our Mercedes-Benz drivetrain category page and take a look through our large selection. Likewise, the sale going on right now that we’re offering on most of our products will grant you a substantial discount on the price of the drivetrain part(s) you buy.

Mercedes-Benz to Teach Seatbelt safety with State Troopers

In Alabama, Mercedes-Benz has teamed up with the Alabama State Troopers to promote good seatbelt practices. The primary goal out of the awareness campaign is to get drivers buckle up no matter the distance of their drive – many people don’t put their seatbelt on for quick trips.

To make your driving even safer, make sure to keep your tires properly inflated, the brakes are good working order, and that the tread on your tires is hasn’t become smooth.

The Mercedes-Benz plant in Tuscaloosa County is teaming up with Alabama State Troopers to promote seatbelt safety awareness.

On Monday morning, ALEA used a special rollover simulator at the Vance Mercedes Plant to kick off the annual Safety Awareness Week. Trooper Reginald King says that using the simulator as a visual aide is important to show how deadly it can be when motorists don’t buckle up behind the wheel.

“Well, hopefully, it will remind people to buckle up each and every time no matter how short the distance you travel. You want to take that extra 2 to 3 seconds to properly buckle that seatbelt,” King said. Continue Reading

Steering Issues Lead to SLK Roadster Recall in Australia

Though it only affects 28 Mercedes-Benz SLK roadsters in all of Australia, you may want to keep your ear to the ground if you have one in the US, too. While recalls like this are usually isolated to one country, Mercedes-Benz Korea has also implemented a recall for their SLK class vehicles. Australia’s recall is due to some steering issues and the one in South Korea is due to a malfunction that keeps the rear tires’ from aligning properly.

Should Mercedes-Benz recall SLKs on this side of the Pacific for any reason be it transmission, steering or anything else, you can rest assured that we’ll be there to let you know.

Mercedes-Benz has recalled its SLK roadster this week, due to a potential steering safety issue.

The carmaker has identified a weakness with the nuts fitted to the vehicle’s tie rods on the rear axle, which may be the incorrect size.

Should this be the case, the nuts may be allowed to loosen, which could alter the steering characteristics of the vehicle.

Unpredictable steering may cause a hazard to the vehicle occupants and other road users. Continue Reading

Wireless Charging Coming to the 2018Mercedes-Benz S550e

In a constant effort to push themselves and their cars further than any other auto manufacturer, Mercedes-Benz often unveils some very cool technology that they end up implementing into their vehicles. Lately, many of their announcements have had to do with safety and the tech behind self-driving cars, but this news is really neat, too.

Using a coil in the ground and a receiver in the undercarriage, the ’18 S550e will be capable of being charged wirelessly, taking a ton of the hassle out of owning and charging an electric vehicle.

If you have ever used wireless charging before, you know how frustrating and unreliable it can be (at least in this author’s experience), and devices are often left undercharged if they even got any juice at all. In contrast to the experiences we might have with consumer electronics, Daimler is reporting that their wireless charging technology boasts an insane 90 percent efficiency at 3.6 kilowatts. Though that rate would be way too low for a purely electric vehicle, it’ll be more than enough for the S550e seeing as it is a hybrid.

The only real downside is that you would actually have to tear into your garage floor and install the wiring and the coil to take advantage of wireless charging at all. Otherwise, the fact that the car has the technology available ends up just being some random piece of trivia rather than a convenient system that was actually worth spending a bit more on a new car for. Although, it will be interesting as more auto manufacturers implement wireless charging to see if the wireless charging coils get installed in parking lots akin to the electric stations you can currently find in many locations.

For that Mercedes-Benz you already own, though, we also offer a wide selection of electrical components and parts to keep your car operating at peak condition.

The Leaders in the Autonomous Car Market

Self-driving cars are all the rage right now, at least that’s what a look at the R&D section of most major automakers reveals. What’s really cool is that our favorite car manufacturer (Mercedes-Benz, obviously) is one of the leading companies in this new realm of technology. I personally can’t wait for the day where the only thing I’ll have to worry about with driving is something like replacing the transmission and other maintenance rather than dealing with other drivers.

Automakers have spent the majority of 2016 announcing their plans for self-driving and the future of automation, but while some just begin to prototype systems, others are soaring ahead of the pack.

Research and advisory firm Lux Research has charted the 12 major automakers on business execution and technical value, and noted if the company has a positive or negative view on the advent of self-driving.

Toyota, Honda, and Mercedes Benz are ahead right now, as you can see in the graph above. Tesla and BMW aren’t far behind, but the report claims that the two companies have a “wait and see” attitude to self-driving, rather than actively pushing for its arrival. The attitude is based on investments, partnerships, and demonstrated capability. Continue Reading

GLE-Class Deemed One of the Safest Vehicles on the Road

The 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class has been added to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety Top Safety Pick list. This makes it a great choice for those of you who might live in an area with bad roads or even worse drivers. Still, don’t let this make you a careless driver less you feel like investing in Mercedes-Benz body parts.

The midsize crossover has earned ‘good’ ratings in each of the institute’s crash scenarios, including the small-overlap impact. The marks essentially carry over from the 2014 M-Class, which had received stronger door sills and other reinforcements to improve performance in the small-overlap trial.

“Measures from the dummy indicate that injuries to the left lower leg would be possible in a crash of this severity,” the IIHS observed in the small-overlap test. “The risk of significant injuries to other body regions is low.”

The GLE-Class comes standard with an advanced-rated automatic emergency braking system, which avoided a collision at 12 mph but only halved the vehicle’s speed when approaching an obstacle at 25 mph. Continue Reading

Mercedes-Benz Trucks to get Pedestrian Avoidance

Daimler, which you should recognize as the parent company to Mercedes-Benz, will be adding a new system to Benz trucks called Active Brake Assist 4 (ABA 4). The system will warn drivers of potential collisions with pedestrians and bicyclists, and will begin partial braking. ABA 4 detects these obstacles up to 250 meters away as far as other vehicles are concerned. When it comes to pedestrians, they can be detected up to 80 meters away. When it comes to people on bicycles or smaller vehicles like mopeds or motorcycles, they can be detected between 250 and 80 meters away and averages out to about 160 meters.

Along with Active Brake Assist 4, Mercedes-Benz trucks will be adding another system called Sideguard Assist. Sideguard Assist, like ABA 4, uses radar sensors on the sides of the truck to let the driver know if objects – other vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists, etc. – are present. The warning comes in the form of an LED flashing at the edge of the windshield, which will draw attention to the driver in a manner that will help see and locate whatever might be on the side. This is especially beneficial when changing lanes and is being implemented for that reason.

Mercedes-AMG C43 Sounds Better than Most Cars Look

With a buttery-smooth purr, the Mercedes-AMG C43 coupe has an undeniably satisfying purr as it makes its way through the video below. However, the snapping sound coming from the 3.0-liter biturbo V6 engine might be a bit of a turnoff for some of you, but if you’re savvy enough to know that’s the turbo working its magic, then that snapping sound might be one of the most beautiful noises you’ve ever heard from a car that is arguably a production vehicle.

As far as what that engine can put out, you are looking at an astonishing 362 hp as well as 384 lb-ft for torque to get the car moving. And it’ll move quick with a zero to 60 that’d be tough for nearly any car on the road to match at 4.6 seconds. The Mercedes-AMG C43 coupe also rocks a 9-speed 9G-TRONIC automatic transmission to really give the car excellent performance and kick at any speed.

As an even crazier testament to how powerful this car is, it is electronically limited to how fast it can go. Don’t worry, though, there’s a pretty good chance that if you pick one of these sporty C43s up you might not ever reach that limit – it is set at a blistering 155 miles per hour.

I will warn you, though, that while you watch the video below, that Mercedes engine might just lull you into a slumber with dreams of tearing through wooded areas and enjoying a car to its fullest. So, if you happen to be watching this at work, take another sip of coffee. But, if you’re like me, hearing this amazing C43’s engine will be more likely to just get you unreasonably excited. Wait, unreasonable isn’t the right word in this context – I meant to say rightfully thrilled to hear a car through desktop speakers (or whatever you’re listening with). Enjoy:
