Mercedes-Benz Calling Out Multiple Recalls
Mercedes has placed a lot of recalls on cars from this year in the last month. Currently there are 4 different active recalls. Mercedes-Benz GLE450 AMG 4Matic Coupes are being recalled due to an issue that can cause the car to shut down while breaking. Multiple Mercedes Benz models are being recalled due to improperly bolted seat belts that could fail during a crash. SLK models have a problem with misaligned headlights. Then finally the C300 4Matics are being recalled due to a failure in power steering. Most of these issues are due to electrical errors, you can find electrical components for Mercedes-Benz cars if you click here.
July 16, 2016 — Mercedes-Benz is recalling more than 6,300 vehicles in four recalls to fix four separate defects, one involving minor problems with the way headlights are aimed.
Mercedes-Benz GLE450 AMG 4Matic Coupe
The majority of the recalled cars are 5,826 model year 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLE450 AMG 4Matic Coupes with problems that can cause the cars to shut down when using the brakes. The automaker says an error inside the engine control unit software can cause the cars to shut down any time the brakes are applied.
Mercedes says it’s possible the driver could be confused and believe the shutdown was planned due to the start/stop function. No matter what a driver may think, the car shutting down from simply applying the brakes could be a serious safety hazard.
Mercedes-Benz says the recalled 2016 GLE450 AMG 4Matic Coupes were built December 10, 2014, to June 6, 2016.
The automaker says owners should watch for mailed notices in July and dealers will update the engine control unit software to keep the cars from stalling. Continue Reading

Mercedes Formula 1 Racing Tense for Upcoming Races
Due to a catastrophic start to the racing season, the Mercedes F1 team has to make tough decisions in regard to engine parts replacements for their upcoming races. Now any engine replacements will come with tough penalties. According to Toto Wolff the Mercedes Boss, the decision on if and when to do an engine change relies on the performance of Hamilton at the Hungarian and German Grand Prix.
Should Hamilton have tough races at these Grand Prix, it’s likely a full engine replacement will be made at Spa-Francorchamps where long straights offer the opportunity for Hamilton to overtake the competition.
For more domestic Mercedes Engine changes, click here and find the model associated with your car.
Mercedes says the next two races will be key to deciding whether or not it will choose to take one or more deliberate engine penalties for Lewis Hamilton this season.
The reigning world champion had taken the greater share of Mercedes’ reliability dramas this season, with a spate of failures earlier on in the campaign.
In particular, a run of back-to-back MGU-H breakdowns at the Chinese and Russian Grands Prix means he has already used his full allocation of that power unit component up until now.
He has also used all five turbos so far too.
Hamilton is well aware that his world championship hopes are made more difficult by the prospect of penalties, which could leave him with grid penalties and an uphill battle against Nico Rosberg. Continue Reading

Mercedes-Benz CLS Line Meets Final Editions
This is bittersweet news for any fans of the CLS line of Mercedes as it seems the final models of the series have been scheduled for release in 2017 and there is no word on any future development of the line. For fans of the designs, the upcoming CLS Shooting Brake and CLS Coupe will be your last chance to pick up these cars new from the Mercedes dealership before they go out of production. On the topic of out of production Mercedes, click here to find those essential engine parts replacements for your car and save possibly months that orders from the Mercedes factory can take.
It was just a year ago that we learned Mercedes was killing off the CLS Shooting Brake, but as far as we know the next-gen CLS coupe will go on sale for the 2018 model year. Be that as it may, Mercedes has decided to launch a Final Edition of the CLS Shooting Brake. Why? Well, considering the CLS Shooting Brake performed poorly in the U.S. and China sales-wise, why not try to weasel as much money as possible out of the few who liked it, right? Furthermore, now that the CLS Coupe is also getting a “Final Edition,” it makes one wonder whether or not Merc will drop the CLS line altogether. We’ll worry about that later, though.
For now, we’ll talk a little bit about this final edition. According to Mercedes (despite the poor sales factor,) the CLS line has “long been established among customers as style icons.” Ola Kӓllenius, a member of the Board of Management of Daimler AG and the person responsible for MB car sales, said, “We’ve produced iconic designs on wheels in the shape of the CLS Coupé and the CLS Shooting Brake. Mercedes Issues Recall of 2015 SLK-Class Cars
Due to factory error, the 2015 SLK300, SLK350, SL400, SL550 and SL63 AMG have all been recalled for repairs to realign headlights. While the issue may not be immediately obvious, the factory error may have placed many Mercedes-Benz headlights out of align enough so that they no longer comply with safety regulations. Fortunately this recall effects a relatively small number of cars in the US, but while we’re on the topic of headlight safety, click here to find any lighting element replacements that could keep you safe on the road.
Mercedes-Benz has launched a repair program for the 2015 SLK300, SLK350, SL400, SL550 and SL63 AMG to re-aim the headlights.
The low beams may have been incorrectly aimed from the factory, due to a deviation in the alignment of the headlight calibrator used in the production process. On certain vehicles the lights may fail to meet the tolerance range specified in federal safety guidelines.
[Daimler AG] believes that there is no effect on vehicle safety,” the company notes in its recall document. “A reduced range of the headlight is recognizable to the driver and can be managed by adjusted driving until the beam can be re-adjusted at an authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer.” Continue Reading

The Self-Driving Car from Mercedes that Isn’t
In the wake of the market that has observed the death of Joshua Brown who had used Tesla’s Autopilot, it is strange to see Mercedes have adverts featuring a car that is “Self-Driven.” The implications of the statement have caught the attention of many skeptics who have confirmed that the Mercedes-Benz E-class is not Self-Driven by official understandings of the term. The E-Class does however feature driver assisting elements including the ability to park its self. So before you go out in a self-driven car and damage your Mercedes Body, make sure you understand the extent of your cars Autopilot.
A Mercedes print ad that is featured in multiple magazines advertising a “self-driving car from a very self-driven company” doesn’t actually feature a self-driving car.
An image uploaded to imgur four days ago, and later tweeted by automotive reporter Ed Niedermeyer, of a possible advertisement for the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class heralds the vehicle as a self-driving car. It’s not a self-driving car.
A second example of the advertisement, which Mercedes didn’t confirm or deny was real when I reached out, was found in an online cache of Motor Trend Magazine by Twitter user Bozi Tatarevic, a contributing writer for The Truth About Cars. It also appears in the web cache for Mercedes-Benz Club of America Star Magazine.
Update: Mercedes later confirmed that the ad is part of the early advertising for the new E-Class. Continue Reading

Mercedes Reveals Top Sports Car of 2017
Images and statistics of the AMG GT R have been released onto the internet and it is quite the striking vehicle. Looking at the GT R it’s clear to see an intentional leap away from traditional Mercedes design style, making this one of their most mean and menacing vehicles they ever let loose into the market.
But don’t mistake the GT R for just being a a great looking car; it’s got a twin-turbo V-8 that is an improved version of the earlier AMG models. For those who can’t wait a year for the newest beast to hit the market, look into getting a modern engine in your Mercedes for that classic look and modern power promised by German engineering.
German design is supposed to be about restraint, about form following function. Bombastic flourishes and stylistic middle fingers are typically verboten; Mercedes- Benz design chief Gorden Wagener is fond of telling his staff to pull lines out of their designs. But with the AMG GT R, they went ahead and added a few, and you won’t hear us complaining. The be-winged, be-splittered GT R exudes just the right amount of menace for AMG’s new range topper.
Under that mile-long hood, the GT R sports a twin-turbo V-8 based on the one in lesser AMG GTs, but with a revised intake, new forged aluminum pistons, and a higher compression ratio. The output dial gets turned up, from 503 horses to 577, and from 479 pound-feet of torque to 516. A lighter dual-mass flywheel is said to engender quicker responses and powertrain feel akin to that of a naturally aspirated engine. The titanium exhaust pipes move to the center of the rear fascia, and the aural experience should be every bit as forceful as the visual one. Continue Reading

Bad News from Mercedes Hydrogen Car Developers
Many of the first well thought out reviews about Mercedes Benz Hydrogen cars are finally coming out. And as the company offered good deals for workers interested in purchasing the car, our first opinions are coming a lot from people who had a hand in developing the vehicle, and the news is grim.
To put a long story short, the driving range on a single tank of hydrogen is impractically short for many people who have any length of commute, and the rarity of hydrogen refueling stations often forces Hydrogen vehicle drivers to go way off course just to try and make it to the destination. As the time has yet to come for upgrade to hydrogen fuel cells, click here to find parts for your fuel system which will help your Mercedes to be more efficient.
Here at CleanTechnica we’ve long taken a somewhat skeptical view of hydrogen-fuel-cell vehicles. For the most part, such vehicles have never seemed to make any kind of sense economically or practically (for general use, not niche use) when the numbers are looked into.
That’s all well and good, but the truth is that numbers simply don’t convince most people. Experiences do. With that in mind, one of the first adopters of the Mercedes-Benz B-Class F-Cell — a small hydrogen fuel-cell hatchback sold in Germany — recently recounted his experiences with the vehicle over the last few years.
Notably, the driver in question, David Wenger, was actually the head of a 19-person firm that was involved in the development of the model’s powertrain — so his thoughts on the vehicle are probably particularly worth considering. Read More

Bad News from Mercedes Hydrogen Car Developers
In a matchup that nobody saw coming, Mercedes-Benz intends to employ aspects that make Pokemon Go appealing in their new advertising efforts. Mercedes has teamed up with Snapchat and wants users to snapchat images of Mercedes Smart Cars @smartcarUSA. It seems they intend to reward vigilant Smart spotters with free swag, but this endeavor seems dubious at best if it can compete with the current huge trend of Pokemon Go.
But should you be driving a Mercedes Smart Car, you may consider clicking here for new Mercedes Benz body parts to ensure your Smart Car looks its best when it’s shared in the new wave of advertisement gaming.
OK, don’t let your heads explode, people. Even though Smart USA is running an effort that melds concepts from the mobile game that just will not leave the waking world alone—Pokemon Go—with the buzziest digital platform in recent months, Snapchat, we’ll all be OK when the dust settles.
The Mercedes-Benz brand, which sells eco-friendly cars, is encouraging its social media followers to take photos of its “smart vehicles” in the wild and share them by snapping @smartcarUSA.
“The brand is surprising and delighting some of their followers on Snapchat with smart-branded gear,” Mark Aikman, general manager, marketing services for MBUSA, explained via email. “For years, #smartspotting has been a way for consumers to share the smart cars they see on the road every day on social media. By leveraging the Pokémon Go phenomenon, the brand is able to take #smartspotting one step further with this treasure hunt-style activation on Snapchat.” Continue Reading

FlightCar Selling Out To Mercedes
It has yet to be revealed why FlightCar is closing down operations, or how much it is selling the technology to Mercedes-Benz for, but we do know that FlightCar raised $40 million and was backed by some real big names. The FlightCar service was intended to allow drivers who were flying out of town to rent their vehicle out while they were away, presumably to people who had flown into town.
It was a novel idea that saved money on parking, and we are excited to see what Mercedes plans to do with this technology. Although if I were to have a stranger drive my Mercedes while I was out of town I’d consider having my interior replaced.
FlightCar raised $40 million to solve airport parking with an Airbnb-like sharing model: let a stranger drive your car while you’re away on a trip and in return avoid parking fees and even make a few bucks. Travelers will have to find a new solution.
On Thursday afternoon, the San Francisco-based FlightCar will announce that, effective immediately, it is closing operations at all 12 of its airport stations around the U.S. and has sold its technology platform to Mercedes-Benz Research & Development North America, where it will become part of Mercedes’ innovation lab for mobility services.
The price Mercedes-Benz paid for the four-year-old startup is unknown at this time, but FlightCar’s last financing, a $20 million Series B in September 2015, gave it a $100 million post-money valuation according to venture capital data firm Pitchbook. Some of FlightCar’s more than 90 current employees plan to join Mercedes-Benz, including 21-year-old cofounder and CEO Rujul Zaparde. Continue Reading

Mercedes-Benz Truck Drivers Rejoice for 3D Printing
The relatively new technology of 3D printing has been played around with by various car producers, but few have put the technology to any dedicated use. Mercedes is breaking out from this trend by dedicating the technology for printing plastic parts for their various trucks.
This is great news especially for owners of older Mercedes truck models as it will make rare parts more accessible for their tune ups and repairs. For any parts for your tune up that can’t be printed in plastics click here to see our great deals.
While companies like Local Motors are dabbling with the idea of a fully 3D-printed car, bigger manufacturers are embracing the technology on a smaller scale. Mercedes-Benz Trucks is harnessing the on-demand benefits of parts produced in this way, using an environmentally friendly 3D printing process to create spare parts.
This isn’t the first time Daimler has made use of 3D printing, with the company using the technology to manufacture more than 100,000 prototype parts every year. The same Selective Laser Sintering printing process will now be used in the production of 30 different plastic truck components, including covers, spacers, spring caps, air and cable ducts, clamps, mountings and control elements.
The process is especially useful when it comes to low-volume parts, or parts no longer being series produced. Rather than forcing production facilities to maintain old tooling, Continue Reading
